We’re halfway in, so it’s time to do what I always do..make MY top albums of the year’s midpoint list.
Let’s go ahead and get it out the way, no, this list won’t contain that guy who dropped his album on June 18th not named Jermaine.
After releasing a label forced EP last year, Mr. eXquire is back to making music that’s true to himself–drunk raps filled with fellatio references. This album does not disappoint.
Ever heard someone and thought they would be the next best thing? That was me after listening to 87 Dreams back in 2010. While Gilbere still isn’t a household name, he’s still cranking out quality music. While he’s not the greatest lyricist, he has quite a knack for production and arrangement. Production on this album is flawless and his songwriter is nearly better than ever.
4. J. Cole-Born Sinner
I’ve said enough. Read the review here.
3. Tyler the Creator-Wolf
After expecting yet another over saturation of horrorcore Tyler, the Creator surprises everyone with Wolf. Sure, it’s still dark but it’s more mature this time around, proving he’s matured overall as an artist
2. Wale-The Gifted
YES TWITTER’S MOST HATED RAPPER IS MY #2, DEAL WITH IT!!! Read review.
Chancellor is probably my favorite rapper out now. Why? Because he’s unique. So unique that if any rapper dare bit his flow that it would be obvious and corny. From the annoyingly dope adlibs (na-na-na-na-na-na-na!) to the drug influenced raps, Chance throws his entire personality into this project.
Tired of Rap? These should hold you over
