Did DC Unintentionally Come Up With Their Best Idea Ever?

Sometimes, ingenuity is cultivated through failure. We’ve heard the stories of Thomas Edison having thousands of failed inventions before the light bulb. Steve Jobs promoted numerous failed devices but we only remember him for the iPod and iPhone. Instagram started off as a geotagging app before it became what it is today. DC turned one … Continue reading Did DC Unintentionally Come Up With Their Best Idea Ever?

10 Joint Hip-Hop Albums We Never Got

It seems like, every so often, we  hear two (or more) artists with great chemistry on a record, or string of records and then either they announce or we expect a joint effort from them…and it never comes. And, as a (former) musician, it makes sense. No two artists record at the same speed and … Continue reading 10 Joint Hip-Hop Albums We Never Got

Vick: Please Stop “Yessuh Massa”ing with Whitlock, THIS is Why Kaep Retired

Vick went on Speak For Yourself yesterday (July 17th) to talk about his career and the current happenings in the National Football League including the recent Ezekeil Elliot incident/non-incident. They also discussed the Colin Kaepernick situation, Kaepernick, as you know, announced his “retirement” a few weeks back and Colin and Wason Jhitlock asked Vick his opinion on the matter. Now granted, there’s a good reason they are asking Vick this: Vick was labeled as toxic after his arrest in 2007 and many thought he would not get a chance to re-enter the league. Vick gave his two cents…

Snowfall and the Importance of Having Patience With “Slow-Burn TV”

From the moment I saw the first teaser for Snowfall, I was intrigued. The crack “epidemic” is a definitive era in American history and we still feel a lot of those effects today. Although this era gets romanticized endlessly through every medium imaginable and I shy away from it (See: Narcos) Snowfall still had me curious. Maybe it … Continue reading Snowfall and the Importance of Having Patience With “Slow-Burn TV”

Keloid: The Black Sci-Fi Web Series You’ve Been Waiting For

Disclaimer: Never ever try to find this web series by simply typing ‘keloid’ into the YouTube search bar. Keyword searches are your friend. The more keywords, the better. Teen Titans Go! – It’s Not Teen Titans and It’s Time To Stop Crying About It

Okay. [in my Ron Voice]

AJ is gonna be mad.

Courtney is gonna be furious.

But I have to finally admit. Teen Titans Go! deserves my respect, it was a hard conclusion to come to, but after watching marathons with my one-year old, I have to admit, it’s a damn good show.

Adventures at #blerDCon: The Rise of Black Nerd Magic

BLERDcon was a much-needed celebration of diversity in all shapes and sizes. There were cosplayers in wheelchairs, panels on LGBT characters in sci-fi, workshops for making costumes for every body type,  and of course, black nerds galore. It was the very definition of a safe space; not something that excludes, but a space that unites by its commitment to respect and tolerance.

The #BB19 Hype Train: Top 5 Best/Worst Big Brother Seasons of All-Time

Big Brother is a game of social strategy combined with, now, physical strength. Some seasons feature power balance swings that go back and forth all season long making the season entertaining. Sometimes an alliance steamrolls through a season, or one particular person is instrumental in nearly every eviction throughout the course of the season. What I wanted to do today was cover the best and worst of BB’s 18 seasons so far. Except the first season, I excluded that because it was a completely different game.

Lil Yatchy isn’t Bad for Hip-Hop, You Are. With Your ol’ Dusty Ass

Let’s start with a bait & switch. If you thought this would be a defense of Lil Yatchy, you’re dead wrong. Dead ass wrong. He sucks. I’d rather listen to a CD of tugboat sounds than hear him rap. God, he’s awful. As awful as he is, though, he isn’t bad for hip-hop. You are. Hip-hop in … Continue reading Lil Yatchy isn’t Bad for Hip-Hop, You Are. With Your ol’ Dusty Ass
